About us

James Wilson founded the Wilson Elder Law Center in 2005 to address the needs of the aging population.  He recognized the growing need for this kind of legal service many years ago but was not quite sure how to put an elder law firm together.  The need to comply with Continuing Legal Education requirements was the first step in discovering a means to serve seniors and their families.  The workshop entitled “Medicaid Planning” was a transforming event.

Mr. Wilson joined the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and began an educational process of attending every educational conference he could find to become proficient in the elder law field. He has also developed strong ties and has learned from  more experienced  attorneys across the country who have been instrumental in helping him shape Wilson Elder Law Center.

He quickly found that helping families through a crisis fit his personality and belief system.     Learning the rules of MS Medicaid became a high priority when he discovered  the difficulties people were having with qualifying for Medicaid and the number who felt they had to be impoverished in order to become eligible.  He has dedicated himself to learning all legal and ethical means of assisting families protect their hard earned assets.

In addition, both attorneys have become accredited by the Veterans Administration to assist veterans and their spouses with "Aid and Attendance" benefits.

Having begun with a two person office in 2005, the practice has grown to a team of 7 caring professionals, ranging from attorneys, paralegals and a social worker who all embrace the values of helping elders and their families navigate the maze of services and issues facing the aging population.

Mr. Wilson and the staff find great joy in working with families who are burdened with significant problems caused by the aging process and helping them reach viable solutions that give them the peace of mind they so desperately seek.

Wilson Elder Law Center is committed to helping families respond to the legal, financial, physical and psychological challenges presented by long life, illness and disability. As an elder law practice that focuses solely on issues faced by seniors, their caregivers and families, we help protect assets, coordinate care and work together to enhance the quality of life for elders and the disabled.

Our goal is to help your loved one remain as independent as possible, but when independence is no longer an option, have a plan in place to assist the person through the remainder of his or her elder care journey. Traditional estate planning law firms focus on saving the elder's money for the next generation; the elder law attorney's goal is to use the elder's money to maximize the elder's quality of life and independence.
